The ultimate trek to explore the high mountain area around the Khumbu Himal, A challenging and rewarding adventure; the ultimate trek to explore the high mountains around the Khumbu Himal, with the traverse of the 17,785’/5422m Chola pass, crossing from Lobuche to the Gokyo valley.
Following the same itinerary as the Everest Base Camp until the return from Kala Patthar, we ascend to the beautiful and extensive summer pasture at Dzongla. Continuing until the moraine at the head of the valley, we climb to the right of the glacier on loose rocks and slabs and keeping south we begin a steep climb on snow-covered surface of Chola Pass.
With numerous lakes big and small in the area of Gokyo, the third from the terminal moraine is of greater importance. These lakes are considered sacred and worshipped by the local Buddhists as we as the Hindus from the foothills. With spectacular views of Mount Cho Oyu (8,201m/26,900′), guards this valley to the north. The Ngozumpa glacier, which we cross is the longest in Nepal (24km long; 1km wide). We take an opportunity to climb Gokyo Ri for yet another awesome view of the highest mountains on the planet. Some prefer this point to Kala Patthar at the foot of Mt. Pumori.
