This relatively short trek touches on some of the best of Nepal’s diversity, blending attractive countryside and interesting villages, and culminating with spectacular mountain views. More than 10,000 visitors a year tramp up and down the single narrow trail leading into the Sanctuary.
The romantically named Annapurna Sanctuary is a secluded high hollow ringed by towering peaks. Traditionally it was sacred territory for the local Gurung people, who considered it the dwelling place of local gods. Most of the Sanctuary’s visitors were herders bringing their sheep up for the summer pasture.
