The Kali Gandaki Valley

Often referred as the Apple Pie trek, is probably the most popular trek in Nepal. This trek requires ten days, possible to fly in and out of Jomsom and spend a few days exploring this region, with due respect to altitude, of course.

Technically speaking, the Kali Gandaki gorge is the deepest in the world, flanked by Dhaulagiri (8,167m/26,795ft) and Annapurna I (8,091m/26,545ft). Long before it assumed cult status as a popular trekking trail, the Kali Gandaki river valley was an important trade and pilgrimage route.

Jingling mule trains carrying loads of wool and salt down from Tibet bear witness to this old tradition, as do barefoot Hindu sadhus en route to the ancient power center of Muktinath.
